Makaha Elementary

It took about two weeks at the end of October for Makaha Elementary School to gather and collect over 26,000 cans and bottles.  Students dug & collected their bags of recyclable and asked their parents and community for their donations to help the school raise some funds which was matched monetarily by Ball Corporation.   Our goal was 10,000 cans and plastic bottles.  Makaha Elementary Student Council members rallied during their lunch and recess periods to collect bags and bags of cans and bottles.
A friendly competition was added by the schools PCNC (Parent Community Network Center), the class who collected the most would win a pizza party for their efforts.  This fun filled campaign proved to be a success as the school surpassed its goal with the help of the winning class (Miss Foley in B-11) collecting  over 5,000 cans and bottles.
A recent assembly for the school's Reading Campaign was greeted by Jeff Matthijssen, Simi Leo, Doris Sojot & Jessie Fujitani of Ball Corporation. The company matched the amount raised with a check for $1,500 in addition to a donation from Hawaiian Sun  of $500 towards Makaha's Reading Campaign.  Mahalo to our families, friends, and community for your support toward the keiki of Makaha Elementary.
